Let us help you

Your 3-Step Guide to Becoming an Official

  • Step 1: Join a Local Association.  (see our directory for help)

Local associations provide training and scheduling for games in their area.
  • Step 2:  Pay the AHSAA and local association fees.

The AHSAA fees are standard across the state; however, local fees vary by each association.
  • Step 3: Complete the test to become a registered official in Alabama.

Become a Recreation Sports Official

  • Visit your local park to see who schedules officials in your area (see our directory for help)
  • Reach out to that “Assigner” and see what they require to become an official for that sport.
  • Sometimes, the same association that schedules school sports will also schedule the recreation sports.

What are we doing to Help?

RefwithBall

We have worked with a video production company to create recruitment videos for sports officials.   Visit your YouTube page to view and use these for sports officials recruitment.

We created a recruitment poster that was sent to all AHSAA member schools to get students interested in officiating.

Along with that, we provided a state-wide radio campaign to help recruit officials for all sports.  Please consider donating to our foundation so we can continue to do these things and others to help or student-athletes play the games they love.

We are building a directory of officials associations in Alabama for any level of the sports we officiate.  Visit that directory here.

Without officials, it's just recess.

Currently in Alabama, and across the nation, games in all sports are being canceled and/or rescheduled due to lack of officials.   We love the sports we officiate and realize how important it was for us as children.  Alabama needs more officials so our athletes can continue to play.  Please consider joining a local association in your area.
